Long-wall mining technology is highly efficient, productive and increases worker safety. A mechanical process ‘shears' coal from pillars left between parallel roads the coal from the wall. The shearers are mounted on a self-advancing hydraulic support, protecting the workers under it. The sheared coal panel falls onto continuous mechanize haulagea transporting the product to surface.  Minimal manual handling and increase automation significantly reduce worker’s exposure to hazards.
