Ensuring the safety of workers and the environment through training, monitoring and comprehensive emergency response planning is fundamental to success and maintaining our international reputation as a leader in mine safety. The following actions support that commitment:
 
A comprehensive safety, best-practices and benchmarking manual, is being created by a firm with international mine safety expertise.
 
A mechanism to monitor and measure safety compliance will be in place.
 
HD Mining staff participate in pre-employment English language and BC safety regulation training.
 
Multilingual signage at the project site - signs in two languages – will assist in translation and ensure safety measures are met.

Long-wall mining technology provides increased protection including ceiling protection, minimal manual handling and reduced coal dust.
